MTV Video Music Awards -- With Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, Green Day, Many More

It's hard to believe that all the action of the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards can possibly be contained in just a few hours of prime time — especially considering that the first half hour alone will feature a hotly anticipated performance from Lady Gaga, another from Taylor Swift, a show-opening tribute to Michael Jackson featuring sister Janet Jackson, plus appearances from Eminem, Pete Wentz, Justin Bieber, Jack Black, Shakira, "Twilight" star Taylor Lautner and Kristin Cavallari.

A year after he needled the Jonas Brothers, Madonna and then-President George W. Bush, host Russell Brand has promised a kinder, gentler hosting stint for his second go 'round. This time, he says, it's all about the love — we'll see!

The stage itself, festooned with towering video screens and a series of "West Side Story"-inspired scaffolding, will play host over the course of the night to performances by Beyoncé, Green Day, Pink, and Jay-Z with Alicia Keys; there will also be performances from Taylor Swift and Muse. When it comes to the elusive, fashion-fast-forward Gaga, though, no one will even tell us just what her performance will be like. But good pal Perez Hilton has promised it will be "next level" and VMA Creative Director Lee Lodge predicted it would be a "classic VMA performance" that he compared to Madonna's iconic set piece from 1984.

Missing student case now a homicide investigation

New Haven, Connecticut, police said they found the remains of a person inside the Amistad Building of Yale University and they assume it is Le.
Le was last seen on a Yale security camera entering a medical research building at about 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Authorities have not found images of her leaving the building. The 24-year-old was to be married Sunday in Long Island, New York.Investigators were testing bloody clothes Sunday and searching a landfill.

The clothes were found hidden in ceiling tiles in the Yale medical research building where Le was last seen Tuesday, a law enforcement source close to the investigation told CNN.The FBI said only that it is examining materials that have been discovered and may be linked to the case.

"All I can say is items that could potentially be evidence have been seized. None have yet been associated with Annie Le," FBI Agent in Charge Kim Mertz said Saturday at a news conference in New Haven, Connecticut .

Mertz said the items found are being tested in more than one laboratory, but declined to say where. It is not uncommon for the FBI to help local police departments by using its laboratory in Quantico, Virginia. The Connecticut State Police also has a forensics lab in Meriden.

William Reiner of the FBI's New Haven office said Sunday that investigators are searching a waste facility that normally handles garbage from the Yale lab. He described it as a routine step.

Jon & Kate Plus 8

Reality TV mom Kate Gosselin says she feels a sense of peace after making the decision to separate from her husband. So should fans of "Jon & Kate Plus 8," who may have fretted that this family-oriented reality show would be jeopardized by the co-stars' estrangement. For better or worse, the TLC series is as warm and fuzzy as ever, if two new episodes that aired Monday are any indication.
The episodes marked the end of a hiatus that began in June, when the Gosselins revealed to a huge audience of 10.6 million viewers their decision to split. The TLC network said then the couple needed time to "regroup," an odd word choice for a broken marriage."This was my first official turn with the kids," Kate said. "It didn't feel very much different. It just felt more like the future."Kate supervised a camp-out for the kids in the yard.
"This is a very, very difficult time right now," she told the camera from her interview chair, a change from the couch she and Jon had shared on the series in the past. "But my main goal is to make this transition as easy and painless ... for the kids as possible."
But "Jon & Kate" fans (and TLC) needn't worry about the scandalmongering. The show still tells a different, squeaky-clean story — almost as if nothing had changed

Meanwhile, Jackson's 79-year-old mother Katherine Jackson was granted temporary custody of her three grandchildren in a court hearing. The children will be under the care of Katherine till August 3, after which she will make her case to be their permanent guardian.

World's Largest Diamond

World's Largest Diamond In South Africa On January 25th 1905, at the Premier Mine in Pretoria, a 3,106-carat diamond was discovered during a routine inspection by the mine's superintendent. Weighing 1 1/3 pounds, and christened the "Cullinan," it was the largest diamond ever found.
Frederick Wells was 18 feet below the earth's surface when he spotted a flash of starlight embedded in the wall just above him. His discovery was presented that same afternoon to Sir Thomas Cullinan, who owned the mine. Cullinan then sold the diamond to the Transvaal provincial government, which presented the stone to Britain's King Edward VII as a birthday gift. Worried that the diamond might be stolen in transit from Africa to London, Edward arranged to send a phony diamond aboard a steamer ship loaded with detectives as a diversionary tactic. While the decoy slowly made its way from Africa on the ship, the Cullinan was sent to England in a plain box.

Microsoft and Yahoo

Microsoft Corp. Chief Executive Steve Ballmer is still signaling an interest in a deal to buy part of Yahoo Inc.
